Are there any entry requirements?

There are no specific academic qualifications required. However we expect candidates to have good general standard of education which includes good communication and interpersonal skills. We use various practical techniques to assess these. Once shortlisted you will be invited for interview, and assessment test. Selection is made not on your performance of the assessment test but on our assessment of your suitability for the course. If accepted you will undertake a one year day release programme. You will be placed with local practitioners, where you will do four days paid work and attend formal class room training one day a week

How will my career develop?

Subsequent to gaining the initial dental nurse qualification a variety of options are available. Registered dental nurses may obtain post- qualification certificates in Oral Health Education, Conscious Sedation, General Anaesthesia, or Radiography. Completing additional examinations allows you to undertake further dental nursing responsibilities, such as the taking of radiographs.

It is also possible to become a dental nurse tutor, usually after obtaining the Further Adult Education Teachers Certificate (FAETC), or to train as a dental hygienist or therapist.
